Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
John 9:1-7 As he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth.
2 And his disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
3 Jesus answered, "It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be made manifest in him.
4 We must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day; night comes, when no one can work.
5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
6 As he said this, he spat on the ground and made clay of the spittle and anointed the man’s eyes with the clay,
7 saying to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing.
Luke 5:1-11
While the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret.
2 And he saw two boats by the lake; but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets.
3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat.
4 And when he had ceased speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch."
5 And Simon answered, "Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets."
6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a great shoal of fish; and as their nets were breaking,
7 they beckoned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.
8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord."
9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the catch of fish which they had taken;
10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; henceforth you will be catching men."
1. Gods work is complete
– This Is Calle d His REST
- is being God hard work?
- everything was finished and he said “It is Good”
The question is not, what will God do, but what has God done?
Heb. 4
4 For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way, "And God rested on the seventh day from all his works."
7 again he sets a certain day, "Today," saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted, "Today, when you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts."
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not speak later of another day.
9 So then, there remains a sabbath rest for the people of God;
10 for whoever enters God’s rest also ceases from his labors as God did from his.
11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, that no one fall by the same sort of disobedience.
2. Gods rest is a person – not a day.
- Everything created in Him
- “ come unto me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
What is he like ?
Psalm 103
A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless his holy name!
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the Pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
5 who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
3. God has prepared Good Works for us
1 Corinthians 2:9 But, as it is written, "What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
4. He Invites Us to Cease from our labors and enter in
11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, …
- believe
5. Resting is to cease from our labors and trust Jesus.
Whoever would enter His rest must cease from their labors as God did from His
- hard work
- fishing all night , catch nothing
- heard the word “cast your net”
- do you believe and act, or reason and do nothing
